Centralising national rail qualifications

We're housing nationally recognised training materials to ensure they are available to approved education providers across the rail sector.
Background

Housing nationally recognised training material

The National Rail Skills Hub is providing a central service where registered training organisations can access up-to-date, nationally recognised training materials.

All materials have been developed in partnership with industry.

Having easy access to course collateral means in-demand trainers and assessors can focus their time on improving the quality of course delivery.

National entry level program

New national entry level program

Before starting any rail job, workers must complete Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC) training.

Currently, the SARC is not nationally recognised. A rail worker with SARC competency in New South Wales has to retrain for a Queensland SARC to work there.

To address this and ensure a consistent approach to safety and training, the Hub has tasked Infrastructure Skills Advisory (ISA) with developing a blue-print for nationally recognised entry level training.

ISA will collaborate with Australia’s 16 rail infrastructure managers to create a model that is recognised across rail networks, jurisdictional borders and major projects around the nation.

The model will include a recommendation for a common set of national curricula across entry level rail courses. It will have a focus on safety and provide recognised pathways for people to join the rail industry.
